Art space meets innovation and wonder, that’s what I left with after visiting Katalog; a new store at 20 Alfasi street in Tel Aviv. Owner & creative director Roni Laufer has done a magnificent job of combining established designers and new artists work. Housed in a well light, under-consructed warehouse atmosphere; the works on display take on a life of their own.
In addition to great product, the display tables in this shop are uber innovative. Roni collected shipping crates and found objects (also know as junk) and transformed them into functional surfaces. Recycle re-use is an ongoing theme throughout the store right down to the last shipping crate.
Katalog has a huge collection of Einat Cohen (shown above), the ceramicist that I featured a few days ago.
Dafi Doron’s natural and red stained wood nesting bench and chairs are functional and eloquent in the same breath. The leaf patterns are actually inlaid wood pieces of a contrasting color.
Resin bowls never looked so good, I actually thought they were glass on first glance. What a great idea from OGG Group.
Here’s a great gift item from Studio Kahn. Make your own art by breaking these salt and pepper shakers apart to use. In a sense the user is “signaturizing” their salt and pepper shakers… a very in the moment product.
This new store is a must see for anyone interested in art, decoration and design.
